Visiting Linh Phuoc Pagoda – an outstanding architecture made by glass bottles
Under BlogLinh Phuoc is a majestic pagoda located in Trai Mat District, about 8km to Da Lat city centre. It is also called Ve Chai Pagoda (means glass bottle) because it has a 49m long dragon made by 12,000 glass bottles of beer. The pagoda is a very unique Buddhism architecture in the world.
Linh Phuoc is built in 1949 and it took 3 years to complete. It became popular in 1990, when it was restored, including three- arched entrances gate was built in the side of the road for guests easily to identify it, because the temple was deep in the alley. Linh Phuoc now owns plenty of sophisticating and amazing architectures made by super unique materials.
The first impressive place is Hoa Long Vien (garden of flower and dragon). Like its name, the garden has a huge and long dragon made by thousands glass bottles. It is actually made by scratches of glass bottles. The dragon is wide mouth covering Buddha Statue. In front of Hoa Long Vien is a 7 floors tower named Linh Tower, with 36m in height. In the tower is Dai Hong Chung Bell of 4.3m high, 2.33m wide and 8,500kg in weight. In the front yard of the pagoda, there is a statue of Avalokitesvara.
The main hall has 33m long, 12m wide with two lines of columns carved beautiful dragon mosaics and many reliefs of histories about Buddha and stories about Lotus Sutra, Amitabha Sutra. There are 108 statues of “thousand eyes thousand hands” in the hall. The statue of Buddha is 4.9m in height, made by concrete, sitting on lotus right in the centre of the hall.
Besides, Linh Phuoc has many sophisticating statues, a lot of lakes, ponds and rocks as well as large room displaying various works of sculpture made by wood or rock. The surroundings of the pagoda are awesome with green shady trees and colorful flowers.
Especially, Linh Phuoc has got 7 national records, including the biggest statue of Bodhidharma made by wood, the pagoda made by the greatest number of pieces of terracotta, the biggest statue of peafowl made by wood, the highest bell tower, the biggest statue of Avalokitesvara, the greatest quantity of Avalokitesvara statues (324) and the main hall decorated with the greatest numbers of dragons.
Linh Phuoc is the final stop of Da Lat railway trip – the oldest railway and train in Vietnam. Therefore, you can visit the pagoda by taking a tour on this special train.
